Angel Reese Sends Strong Message on Future With Chicago Sky Amid Ongoing Struggles - Loadedmore.ng

The Chicago Sky’s struggles have once again become a focal point of WNBA conversation, and franchise star Angel Reese isn’t holding back about what she expects from the organization moving forward.

Reese, now in her second year with Chicago, has been a dominant individual force setting multiple rebounding records and proving her value as one of the league’s rising stars. But despite her efforts, the Sky (9-30) are set to miss the playoffs for the second straight season, leaving Reese openly frustrated about the lack of team success.

“I’m not settling for the same s— we did this year,” Reese told the Chicago Tribune. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me. The priority is being able to convince [free agents] that this is an organization moving in the right direction.”

Since Reese entered the league as the Sky’s top draft pick in 2024, the franchise has undergone instability, including the firing of head coach Teresa Witherspoon whom Reese had been close with. The front office has also struggled to attract top free-agent talent, with Emma Meesseman in 2022 standing as the team’s last major signing.

While Reese remains under contract with Chicago through 2027, she made a blunt admission that her long-term commitment isn’t guaranteed.

“I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me,” Reese said. “But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded and maximize what I have here.”

Alongside fellow 2024 rookie Kamilla Cardoso, Reese is viewed as one of the few untouchables on the Sky’s roster. Still, the team desperately needs more firepower in the backcourt and a stronger supporting cast to avoid wasting their young stars’ prime years.

With free agency approaching, Reese’s comments put pressure squarely on the Sky’s front office to prove they can build a contender or risk losing their franchise cornerstone in the future.
