Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh etched his name deeper into baseball history on Tuesday night, blasting home runs No. 55 and 56 in the Mariners’ matchup against the Kansas City Royals. Both long balls carried historic weight and added to Raleigh’s incredible 2025 season.
With his first homer of the night, Raleigh officially passed Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle for the most home runs in a single season by a switch hitter. Mantle’s record of 54, set in 1961, stood for more than six decades before Raleigh surpassed it.
He also became just the second switch hitter in MLB history after Mantle to reach the 50-homer milestone in a season.
Raleigh wasn’t done there. His second home run tied him with Mariners icon Ken Griffey Jr., who hit 56 homers in both the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Raleigh now shares the single-season home run record in Mariners history, with a chance to claim it outright before the regular season ends.
The Mariners currently sit atop the AL West with an 82–68 record, pushing toward a postseason berth. If Raleigh keeps swinging like this, he could not only set the franchise record but also carry Seattle into October with serious momentum.
