Real Madrid fans will have to wait a little longer to see Eduardo Camavinga back in action, as the midfielder has suffered another injury setback just before Los Blancos’ La Liga clash with Real Sociedad.
Camavinga, who has been sidelined since April with an abductor tear and later a sprained ankle in August, was expected to make his long-awaited return this weekend. Reports suggested he could at least travel with the squad to San Sebastián, but The Athletic now confirm the 22-year-old’s recovery “has been delayed,” with Real Madrid choosing not to risk him until he is fully fit.
The French international has yet to feature under new manager Xabi Alonso and has already missed the FIFA Club World Cup and Madrid’s opening three La Liga fixtures of the 2025/26 season. Injuries have been a recurring theme for the former Rennes star, who managed just 35 appearances last season due to various setbacks.
With Luka Modrić departing and Dani Ceballos’ role diminishing, Camavinga was tipped for a bigger role this season. However, he now faces increased competition in midfield with Alonso relying on Fede Valverde, Arda Güler, and Aurélien Tchouaméni as his preferred trio.
The club remains hopeful Camavinga could return in time for their Champions League opener against Marseille on Tuesday, September 16. If not, his comeback might be delayed until the Santiago Bernabéu clash with Espanyol on Saturday, September 20.
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham, Endrick, and Ferland Mendy are also expected to miss the Real Sociedad match, leaving Alonso’s squad stretched ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
