Carlo Ancelotti has delivered a strong warning to Neymar regarding his chances of making Brazil’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The Italian tactician, who took charge of the Selecao earlier this year, made it clear that the Santos forward is not guaranteed a place in his plans unless he proves his fitness and form.

The 33-year-old attacker has been left out of Ancelotti’s squads for the June and September international breaks, raising questions about his future with the national team.

While Ancelotti initially explained Neymar’s absence as a result of fitness concerns, the former PSG and Barcelona star suggested his exclusion was down to “technical issues.”

Speaking to ESPN, Ancelotti clarified his stance and urged Neymar to focus on peak condition if he wants to feature in Brazil’s World Cup campaign.

“We are not going to observe how Neymar plays, obviously. Everyone knows his talent,” Ancelotti said. “In modern football, to take advantage of his talent, the player has to be in good physical condition. If he is in his best condition, he will have no problems being in the national team.”

The Brazil coach also revealed where he plans to use the veteran forward if selected, confirming Neymar would operate in a central role.

“I would select him as an attacking midfielder or striker. He has to play centrally; he can’t play wide because modern football requires forwards with great physical qualities. He can play as a No.10 without problems.”

Neymar, who returned to Santos earlier this year, is expected to feature in their upcoming Brazilian Serie A clash against Atletico Mineiro on Sunday.

With the World Cup edging closer, the superstar will be desperate to stay fit and convince Ancelotti that he deserves a spot in Brazil’s final squad.
