Liverpool record signing Florian Wirtz has admitted he is still finding his feet in the Premier League after an underwhelming start to life at Anfield.

The 22-year-old joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in a blockbuster £116 million ($156.6m) transfer, only for Liverpool to break that record again with the £125m capture of Alexander Isak.

Despite the heavy investment, Wirtz has struggled to deliver an instant impact, with quiet performances against Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Arsenal.

His form came under further scrutiny during the international break, as German media criticized him following a 2–0 defeat to Slovakia.

However, Wirtz bounced back in style with a stunning goal in Germany’s 3–1 victory over Northern Ireland, where he also created three chances and won more fouls than any other player on the pitch.

Speaking to RTL after the game, Wirtz made an honest admission about his Premier League adjustment:

“It’s another league, another type of football. I’m happy to be there,” he said.

When asked about scoring his first Liverpool goal, Wirtz replied:

“I have no idea when I’ll score my first goal, hopefully in the next game, but it will come at some point.”

Wirtz, who struggled when deployed on the left flank against Slovakia, looked far more comfortable in his natural attacking midfield role versus Northern Ireland.

That display could offer Liverpool boss Arne Slot encouragement ahead of their return to league action against Burnley this weekend, where Wirtz will be chasing his first major statement in a Reds shirt.
