Josh King Wins Fulham’s Goal of the Month for Disallowed Strike vs Chelsea

Josh King Wins Fulham’s Goal of the Month for Disallowed Strike vs Chelsea - Loadedmore.ng

Fulham fans have voted Josh King’s sensational effort against Chelsea as their Goal of the Month for August, even though the strike was controversially disallowed by VAR.

The 18-year-old midfielder thought he had netted his first senior goal in Fulham’s 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge before the international break. However, VAR intervened to chalk it off, citing a foul by Rodrigo Muniz on Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up.

The decision drew heavy criticism, with Fulham boss Marco Silva branding it “unbelievable” after the match.

A Moment Fans Refuse to Forget

Despite the setback, Fulham confirmed that King’s goal topped the monthly vote by a landslide, taking 83.1% of the fan ballot. His effort beat Ollie Gofford’s strike for the U21s against Valencia and Muniz’s dramatic equaliser against Brighton.

In their statement, the club highlighted the quality of King’s finish:

“Though it was cruelly taken away from the 18-year-old, there is no denying the skill of the effort… he confidently burst forward onto Sander Berge’s pass, cut inside Tosin Adarabioyo, and drilled a shot through his legs into the near post.”

PGMOL Admits Mistake

PGMOL chief refereeing officer Howard Webb admitted last week that the decision to disallow King’s strike was a “misjudgement.” VAR official Michael Salisbury, who made the call, was subsequently stood down from duty the following weekend.

Salisbury will not referee this weekend’s Premier League fixtures but is set to return as the fourth official for West Ham vs Tottenham.

VAR Controversies Continue

The incident is just the latest in a string of contentious VAR decisions at the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Webb has insisted the technology is improving, but conceded errors like this one carry “significant impact” on players, clubs, and fans.

For Josh King, however, Fulham supporters have already made their feelings clear: goal or not, his Stamford Bridge strike was a moment to remember.
