Kobbie Mainoo could be on his way out of Manchester United, with reports claiming the midfielder is ready to leave Old Trafford before the summer transfer window shuts on Monday.

According to The Guardian, the 19-year-old has grown frustrated after being left on the bench in both of United’s opening Premier League matches against Arsenal and Fulham. Despite being one of the most highly-rated youngsters at the club, Mainoo has yet to feature under new boss Ruben Amorim this season.

Amorim has so far relied on Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in deeper midfield roles, while summer signing Manuel Ugarte is also ahead of Mainoo in the pecking order. To make matters worse for the England international, United are still looking to add another central midfielder, with Adam Wharton and Lucien Agoume linked as potential arrivals.

After United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday, Amorim explained Mainoo’s current situation:

“He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno. Sometimes he will play alongside him, but at the moment he needs to keep competing in training.”

Mainoo, who came through United’s academy and has long been tipped as a future star, is now seriously considering an exit in search of regular first-team football.

With the transfer deadline looming, the next 48 hours could be decisive for the young midfielder’s future at Manchester United.
