Kylian Mbappe continues to etch his name into football history, this time overtaking French legend Thierry Henry on the national team’s all-time scorers list.
The 26-year-old Real Madrid forward netted his 52nd international goal on Tuesday night, surpassing Henry’s tally of 51 and moving into second place among France’s greatest scorers. Mbappe achieved the milestone in just 92 appearances which is 31 fewer than Henry needed to reach the same landmark.

Mbappe’s Record-Breaking Goal
The history-making strike came from the penalty spot against Iceland in France’s September 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier. His composed finish on the brink of halftime leveled the score after Andri Guðjohnsen’s opener. While it may not have been Mbappe’s most spectacular goal, it will forever be remembered as the one that placed him above one of his childhood idols in the record books.
Closing in on Olivier Giroud
With 52 goals to his name, Mbappe now sits just five behind Olivier Giroud, who leads France’s all-time scoring chart with 57 goals. At his current pace, it seems only a matter of time before the captain becomes Les Bleus’ outright top scorer.
Back in Form for Les Bleus
France manager Didier Deschamps will be delighted to see his star forward back in lethal form. After a quiet stretch last season, Mbappe has rediscovered his scoring touch by netting four goals and providing three assists in his last four international appearances.
Eyes on the 2026 World Cup
While personal milestones continue to pile up, Mbappe remains focused on leading France to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Les Bleus will aim to reach their third consecutive final, with their captain playing a pivotal role in that pursuit.
