Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that head coach Luis Enrique will require surgery following a cycling accident on Friday.

The Spaniard, 55, suffered a fractured collarbone and was treated by emergency services before being taken for further medical evaluation.

In an official statement on social media, PSG expressed their support for Enrique:

“Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone. The Club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”

It is unclear how long Enrique will be sidelined, though PSG are set to return to Ligue 1 action on September 14 against Lens at the Parc des Princes after the international break.

The French champions have enjoyed a flying start to the new season, claiming three straight league wins and lifting the UEFA Super Cup after a dramatic shootout triumph over Tottenham.

Since Enrique’s appointment in 2023, PSG have enjoyed a golden run, securing back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, French Cups, and their long-awaited first Champions League crown in Munich last May.

Before joining PSG, Enrique built his managerial reputation with Barcelona, where he won a treble, and also guided Spain’s national team. As a player, he enjoyed spells at Sporting Gijón, Real Madrid, and Barcelona before retiring in 2004.

Enrique’s recovery timeline will be closely monitored, with PSG supporters hopeful their coach will be back on the sidelines soon.
