Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas Reclaims WNBA Single-Season Assist Record From Caitlin Clark - Loadedmore.ng

Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas has officially reclaimed the WNBA’s single-season assist record, surpassing the mark set by Caitlin Clark just last year.

Thomas, who first held the record with 316 assists in 2023, finished the 2024 season with 317 but watched as Clark stormed past her with 337 in a dazzling rookie campaign for the Indiana Fever. Fast forward to 2025, and Thomas is back on top.

In Saturday’s narrow 87–84 loss to the Connecticut Sun, Thomas handed out 10 assists, bringing her season total to 342—a new all-time high. Her brilliance also raised her season average to 9.24 assists per game, the second-best mark in WNBA history behind only Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot.

Despite Phoenix’s struggles, Thomas continues to shine individually. She earned her sixth All-Star selection this season and has finished top five in MVP voting for three straight years, cementing her reputation as one of the league’s most complete players.

Clark, meanwhile, has endured a tough 2025 season disrupted by injuries. She has tallied just 115 assists so far, averaging 8.8 per game in a pace that, over a full season, would rank second only to Thomas.

With Thomas back atop the leaderboard, the WNBA’s assist crown remains in familiar hands.
