Transfer deadline day has thrown up yet another twist as Bayern Munich have reopened talks to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, just hours after appearing to walk away from a deal.

The Senegal international looked set to join the Bundesliga champions on a season-long loan worth £13 million, with an option to buy for £56.3m next summer.

However, Chelsea dramatically pulled the plug after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s clash with Fulham. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the forward could be sidelined for “six to eight weeks,” leaving the Blues short of striking options.

With Christopher Nkunku sealing a permanent move to AC Milan at the weekend, Delap’s setback left Chelsea with only one fit senior striker — Joao Pedro. Jackson, who had already landed in Munich ahead of his medical, was told to return to London, a decision that reportedly left him furious.

Despite the setback, Jackson’s agent Ali Barat met with Bayern officials on Sunday to revive negotiations. This time, discussions are centred on a permanent transfer, with Chelsea believed to be more open to the idea after recalling Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to provide extra depth up front.

Chelsea are expected to be one of the busiest Premier League clubs before the 7pm BST deadline.

The Blues are close to completing a loan move for Brighton winger Facundo Buonanotte. Interest in Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez has cooled after the Catalan giants ruled out his departure.
