Nottingham Forest Sack Nuno Espirito Santo After Breakdown With Owner Evangelos Marinakis - Loadedmore.ng

Nottingham Forest have officially parted ways with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis collapsed.

In a statement, Forest confirmed the decision, citing “recent circumstances” as the decisive factor behind the Portuguese manager’s exit.

“The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club. As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey,” the club wrote.

Nuno, who arrived at the City Ground in 2023 as Steve Cooper’s successor, guided Forest to European qualification last season. However, reports in August suggested his once close relationship with Marinakis had turned sour.

Speaking at the time, Nuno admitted:

“I have always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season was very, very close, almost on a daily basis. This season, not so well.”

Attempts were expected to be made to repair the fractured relationship between Nuno, Marinakis, and Forest executive Edu, but face-to-face talks reportedly never took place.

Who Will Replace Nuno at Nottingham Forest?

With Forest now searching for a new manager, several big names are already being linked to the job.

Ange Postecoglou, who led Tottenham to their first major trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League last season, is said to be a leading contender. Despite his European success, Spurs sacked him after finishing 17th in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho has also been tipped as a candidate, with respected journalist Ben Jacobs reporting the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss is admired by Forest’s hierarchy.

Other names reportedly under consideration include Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth), Marco Silva (Fulham), and Mauricio Pochettino (USMNT manager).

Nottingham Forest have spent the international break assessing their options and will face Arsenal in their first Premier League match after the break under interim guidance.
