Chelsea youngster Tyrique George will remain at Stamford Bridge after a dramatic Deadline Day transfer to Fulham collapsed at the final hurdle.
The 19-year-old winger looked set to make the short move across west London, with talks progressing rapidly on Deadline Day morning. A five-year deal had been proposed, and George was ready to link up with Marco Silva’s side.
However, Fulham shifted focus later in the day, securing breakthroughs for Shakhtar Donetsk star Kevin – now a club-record £34.6m signing – and AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, while also lodging a deal sheet for Swedish talent Jonah Kusi-Asare.
Complications grew as Fulham decided to keep Harry Wilson, after negotiations with Leeds United broke down, reducing their need for another winger. As a result, George’s switch was abandoned and the deal officially fell through.
George, an England youth international, will now stay with Chelsea’s first-team squad. But with the Blues spending heavily this summer on attacking reinforcements – including Jamie Gitten, Estevão Willian, João Pedro and the injured Liam Delap – the teenager faces an uphill battle for game time.
The winger had previously attracted interest from Bayern Munich, Roma, and even RB Leipzig, who held talks earlier on Deadline Day before Fulham swooped in. But with the move collapsed, George remains a Blue – at least for now.
