“You Saved Me” – Liam Lawson Credits Engineer After Narrow Escape at Dutch Grand Prix - Loadedmore.ng

Liam Lawson had a heart-stopping moment at the Dutch Grand Prix, narrowly avoiding a major crash thanks to a quick warning from his race engineer.

The Racing Bulls driver was approaching turn three when Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari sat stranded on the track following a dramatic collision with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli. Leclerc, who lost a wheel in the incident, spun across the circuit before coming to a halt.

Lawson, unable to see the stopped Ferrari, was saved by his engineer’s urgent radio message:

“Double yellow where you are, double yellow where you are.”

Relieved, Lawson replied:

“Oh my god, I couldn’t see him, you saved me there.”

Drama With Carlos Sainz

The New Zealander’s afternoon didn’t calm down there. Later in the race, Lawson tangled with Carlos Sainz at turn one after a restart. The Spaniard attempted an overtake around the outside but contact left both drivers with punctures.

Furious on team radio, Sainz blasted:

“He’s just so stupid, my god. This guy, it’s always the same guy.”

However, the stewards ruled against the Ferrari star, slapping him with a 10-second penalty. A shocked Sainz fumed at the decision:

“Who? Who gets a penalty? ME? You are joking. It is the most ridiculous decision of my life.”

Despite the drama, Lawson finished just ahead of Sainz in P12.

Hadjar’s Breakthrough Podium

While Lawson’s race was filled with close calls, his teammate Isack Hadjar stole the headlines. The French rookie qualified fourth and held his ground to secure a maiden F1 podium in third place.

Hadjar benefitted late on when Lando Norris retired with a suspected oil leak, promoting him onto the rostrum.

At the front, Oscar Piastri claimed victory ahead of Max Verstappen, extending his lead in the championship standings to 32 points.

Key Takeaways from Dutch GP:

  • Lawson avoids major crash thanks to quick-thinking engineer.
  • Sainz handed penalty after clash with Lawson, sparking fury.
